I AM...

Ok time for a serious note...

I've often been asked what do I call "Him"? I typically respond explaining that I don't call "It" anything, but when referring to it to other people I may use the terms "God", "Allah", "The Creator", "The Supreme Being", "The Highest Power" or "Yahweh". This seems to trouble some people, as if I am supposed to pick a name and/or title and stick with it. Oh sorry let me give you a quick little background on myself...For the first five years of my life I was predominantly raised in a semi Islamic household, with my mother having converted over from Christianity. (perhaps not completely) Fast forward...and you get myself who has grown up basically without a religion because I was never made to completely follow any. A blessing and a curse. (as many things are lol)

Now back to my point! Recently I was informed of the name/title "I AM" in reference to "God". Not knowing much about this term I quickly Googled it and researched it on Wikipedia. Now I've always known of at least a few different names/titles but to my surprise I learned that in Judaism there are "Seven Names of God" (that's my favorite number!) and over twenty different lesser used titles!

Ok so back to "I AM"... So it states that this was "the response God used in the Hebrew Bible when Moses asked for His name". Ehyeh-Asher-Ehyeh, which is translated into English as "I AM THAT I AM". As I was researching this, I just kept thinking about that saying "I think therefore I am." So I Googled that! (gotta love Google!) Reading about the "Father of Western or Modern Philosophy", Rene Descartes, I started to wonder if there was a link here with the words "I am". As if he could have been saying that since he thinks, he exists or furthermore that he is "God". It was interesting that some people claimed that he was secretly an Atheist. So to wrap this all uppp......

The question that I pose is, Do you consider it to be Blasphemy to call oneself "God" or to look within for the source rather than outwardly?

~Sincerely, Me

  1. In my opinion, calling yourself 'God' is the quintessence of blasphemy. To refer to yourself as God signifies that you are a supreme being, and people must worship you. God is synonymous with power, authority and omniscience. The very word evokes a feeling of inferiority in human beings. I think a more politically correct way of formulating this expression is: "I am God of myself" which might still prove to be debatable but not as offensive. The point is, if you're going to claim absolute greatness, it's best to make it personal and independent of other people so as to avoid insult.

Or one can say 'God is Me' or 'God is in me'. By making it more objective, it takes away the pride and the self-praise. Instead of mentioning yourself first, you put God first. It's all about humility, IMO.

And I think the phrase "I think, therefore I am" actually refers to the power of the mind and the subjectivity of conviction. If you think you are a failure at everything you do, then you will fail at everything you do. In the same sense, if someone is absolutely convinced that they will be cured, then they will get better (this is known as the placebo effect). These theories are controversial, however.

P.S. I am supposed to be able to choose the design of the blog? Because I can.

PONY Teamed Up With Keep-A-Breast :-)

Ok so, I came across this site that was advertising some Pony sneakers. Well I LOVE SNEAKERS!!!!!! So I decided to see what they were all about. It turns out that Pony teamed up with an organization named Keep-A-Breast (yes we would like to keep those things) and together they came up with a line of sneakers. The really kool thing about it is that the Keep-A-Breast organization feels that this will help to spread breast cancer awareness AND supposedly "$3 from each pair goes toward breast cancer research". Well I LOVE SNEAKERS, and to support causes (oh did i mention how much i love sneakers? lol)....soooooo sounds good 2 me! Check it out and tell me what you think. Thanks!
